Universal Health Care

We Democrats have a great respect for life and want dignity for all. All people need health care.

Adequate health care should be a top priority in any society. Seven million California residents are uninsured, lacking basic health care coverage for even simple preventative care. The costs to our counties and state are spiraling as public facilities cope with the costs and consequences of untreated conditions amongst the uninsured.

We must take action on behalf of over 200,000 Santa Clara County residents who have no health insurance. We urge you to join us in supporting legislation and initiatives that provide universal health care for all Californians.

Marriage Equality

Any two committed and loving people who intend to spend their lives together should have the right to get married. We believe it to be a constitutional right under our state and federal laws. Equality is for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Our commitment to marriage equality, despite current political obstacles, remains strong. We must fight for equality as we work to reassure all Americans that our constitutional rights must prevail. We Democrats ask you to come together with us in this current stage of the ongoing battle for civil rights for all Americans. Please join us in supporting and speaking out for the right of LGBT people to get married.

We support state legislation to pass marriage equality laws. We intend to fight any initiative that discriminates against LGBT people and strips people of their equal rights under the law.

The Moorpark Democratic Club congratulates the people and governments of Spain , Canada , Belgium , the Netherlands and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for implementing marriage equality laws. These governments are helping us teach all Americans that there is no negative consequence to providing marriage certificates to committed LGBT couples in love.

The Death Penalty

The State of California should immediately enact a moratorium on the execution of prisoners as an official State Commission investigates allegations of errors and prejudice in our state's criminal justice system. The moratorium should be in effect until the “California Commission on the Fair Administration of Justice” has time to complete their work and report their findings.

We ask you to join us in supporting a moratorium on the death penalty.

U.S. War in Iraq

As proud citizens of the United States , it is our duty to protest the invasion and ongoing occupation of Iraq . We believe President Bush and his administration continue to mislead the American public regarding this senseless war.

As the body bags continue to be filled - now exceeding 2,000 - and the crying of the Gold Star Mothers increases, we need to show true patriotism. Support and protect our troops by bringing them back now.
